Common questions

Everything you need to know before your first session

Is clinical hypnotherapy recognised and certified under the Ministry of Health Malaysia?

Clinical hypnotherapy in Malaysia is currently practised as a complementary therapy and is not yet formally regulated as a standalone profession under the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia. However, it falls under the broader framework of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), which the MOH acknowledges and continues to develop guidelines for. Practitioners are encouraged to hold internationally recognised certifications from accredited bodies such as the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE) or the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH, UK) and the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH, UK). At The Hypno Loft, we hold internationally accredited certifications and uphold the highest standards of professional and ethical practice.

Why clinical hypnotherapy and not counselling?

Both are valuable, but they work differently. Counselling primarily works at the conscious level — talking through experiences, emotions and patterns. Clinical hypnotherapy goes deeper, working directly with the subconscious mind where most of our habits, fears and beliefs are stored. This means change can often happen faster and feel more effortless. Many clients find hypnotherapy effective when talking alone hasn't been enough. The two can also complement each other beautifully.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

Not at all. Hypnosis is a state of focused relaxation — you remain fully aware and in control throughout the entire session. You cannot be made to do anything against your will.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies by individual and goal. Many clients see significant results in 1–3 sessions. Some deeper or longer-held patterns may benefit from 4–6. We always discuss expectations upfront.

Is clinical hypnotherapy scientifically supported?

Yes. There is a growing body of clinical research supporting clinical hypnotherapy for anxiety, pain management, irritable bowel syndrome, sleep disorders and habit change. It is recognised by the British Medical Association.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. Online sessions via video call are just as effective as in-person sessions. All you need is a quiet, comfortable space and a stable internet connection.

What does a session feel like?

Most clients describe it as a deeply pleasant state — similar to that feeling just before drifting off to sleep, where the body is relaxed but the mind remains gently alert and receptive.

Do any celebrities use clinical hypnotherapy?

Absolutely. Clinical hypnotherapy has been embraced by many well-known figures. Adele has spoken openly about using hypnotherapy to manage stage fright. Tiger Woods used it to sharpen his mental focus on the golf course. Kate Middleton reportedly used hypnobirthing techniques. Orlando Bloom, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon have also credited hypnotherapy for helping them overcome personal challenges. You're in great company.
